Focus Statement: Death of 1030 Morgan


Gold Coins: measured in bodies not just units, over 6 months there were 261 police calls there, lady was attacked, rainbow symbol while being demolished, 10 years of violence there, people cheering, man takes home a chunk of brick to represent all the people that died at 1030 Morgan


Subjective Sound, Objective Copy: reporter says that a lot of people were killed and hurt their, neighbors tell stories about what happened to them there (lady who was attacked and they cut her arm), reporter says that neighbors have waited for this day for a long time, people show their joy with cheers

Story Elements

Interview: we collect sound bites, 2-8 seconds in length, follow focus statement

Voice Over/Narration: reporter guides the story, stand-up is where we see reporter one time

Natural Sound: Nat sound- sound of the action, puts viewer at the event, great way to start story

A-Roll: all the sound in the story, interview, VO, stand-up, close, natural sound

B-Roll: video that enhances a-roll, walldo, 10 steps to great camera work, beginning and ending

Stand-Ups and WALLDO

Stand ups:

1.       Stephanie: no audio, dance tech, no eyes on third,

2.       Noah: about the battle for the apple, takes up majority of screen, make you want to know more, no mic, lots of background noise

WALLDO:

1.       Group 1: wide shot of school, natural, vibrant colors, Angled shot of map of school, Low shot of cartwheel, shadow shows the whole movement and we only see the feet, videographer shadow also in the shot , Linking shot of them not in the crosswalk, Opposite shot of through the window, we can see the camera and videographer

2.       Group 7:  Wide shot of someone walking, someone bumped camera, Angled shot of 2 people talking, Low shot of people walking, Linking shot of 2 people walking in, follow one and then switch to the other, part of second guy gets cut off, Depth shot with fire alarm on the side and people walking, Opposite shot of the depth shot, shows us the other view

My Definition: impromptu interview by reporter

Definition: one time in the story that we see the reporter

Purpose
1. put a face to the reporter
2. move the story along
3. reporter as B-roll
4. take viewer to the scene

Newspaper Model Notes

Purpose: provide information on newsworthy topics of importance to the majority of readers.

Types: National issues- finance, ware politics,
            Local - actions and events in local area

Obhectives: they all show be objective, facutal, accurate and balanced

Format and Structure: Major stories toward the front, lesser toward the back, organized by category (world news, sports, finance, etc.). Inverted Triangle, important details at the top, least important at the end. Keep paragraphs independant. Not written in chronological order.
            Order
               1. Headline and by-line (reporters name and picture)
               2. Opening paragraph (intro) about 25-40 words, provides important and interesting news,
                   answers who, what, where, and  when
               3. Further short paragraphs of 3-=40 words, each with own main idea and different fact,
                   may include quotes
               4. Details are given in order of importance with least importanat at the end, allows readers
                   to skim and get essential facts
               5. Facts and opinions are summarized at end, detailing the issue or event


Language: Headlines - short phrases and incomplete sentences, figurative language, sterotypes,
                  exaggeration
                  Articles - clear and concise, written in 3rd person, can use active or passive voice
                  depending on focus, should be factual and accurate, include quotes, comments, opinions,
                  statements, observations from people involved or experts on topic, give labels so reader
                  knows who they are (ex: :"the minister, Mr.Dash"), avoid racist, sexist or religious slurs,
                  be accurate and balanced (provide facts for both sides)

5 W's: Who, What , When Where, Why (sometimes how)

O: Opposite, action/reaction film from opposite point of view, reverse


Techniques in Kare 11 story
- Wide shot : sets scene by showing house
- Depth : has edge of pool table in shot with her shooting in the background, also shooting through the door way
- Low : Shoots from below her as she is shooting
- Linking : ball knocks into one and switches to follow other ball
- Opposite: different angles of her shooting
